A new report by the Energy Saving Trust (EST) suggests that British households are wasting a combined £68m a year in energy costs, by overfilling their kettles.
The study of 86,000 British homes showed that 95% of people boil a kettle everyday, with 40% boiling water five or more times a day.
The EST recommends that you should only boil the amount of water you need, rather than filling your kettle to its maximum capacity. In fact, independent tests by the Which? consumer group show that by boiling two cups of water, when you only need one, you are using 64% more energy and taking 62% longer to do so.
If you’re looking to save money on the water you boil for hot drinks, why not consider one of the great hot water dispensers in our comparison chart, which allow you to boil just the water you need.
